From Monday through Friday, we serve between 25-30 elementary-aged students after school. Our program is designed to keep them safe, help them with homework and integrate them with peers through games and activities. We provide transportation from the school to the center and, after the program, to the students’ homes. We also serve them a hot meal before they return to their families.

Before School : 6:30am - 8:30am After School: 3:30pm - 6:00pm
The before and after school program is the place where we ensure that our elementary children are socially and emotionally prepared. With the ability to connect with children on a holistic approach, by teaching life and social skills, we help our children develop a strong relationship with adults, a sense of worth, positive peer relationships, leadership and decision making skills which lead to a productive life. Most of all, we connect our children with positive role models and volunteers who care about them. We help parents by providing transportation to and from school to the center as well as a snack!

Summer Program
We are proud to host one of the most inexpensive summer programs in Sioux City. Running seven weeks, Monday - Friday, it gives participants plenty of new beginnings. From rock climbing to roller skating, field trips to nearby communities, we introduce children in our summer program to new and unique experiences. We bring in guest speakers to discuss career opportunities, participate in Boys & Girls Scout camp, and even offer special classes in math, reading, and cooking. We teach history through partnership with Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and attend art classes at the local Art Center. For some fun field trips outside of Sioux City, we travel to the Butterfly museum and Washington Pavillion in Sioux falls and for a special end of the summer treat, we visit the Amazing Pizza machine in Omaha.
Prevention Outreach Program
The Prevention Outreach Program is one of our signature programs at the Sanford Center. It provides workers in elementary, middle and high schools in the Sioux City Community School District. Our Outreach Specialists have anywhere from 20 to 25 students on their caseloads. By bridging the gaps between home, school, law enforcement, and social services, Outreach Specialists are able to intervene before major problems occur. They track academics, behavior issues, and most importantly, reach out to students and parents at their homes.
ACT Prep
Through partnership with New Horizon Tutoring Service we offer an extremely affordable even-week prep program for students. Those participating in the program come from all around the Siouxland area, including all four Sioux City High schools, Hinton, Elk Point-Jefferson, Lawton, South Sioux City, and Sergeant Bluff. Students work with tutors to prepare for the college entrance examination. In 2018, one of our students scored a 33 out of 36 on the ACT. Several of our tutors have gone on to Ivy League schools, including Harvard University!
